At the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, four villages (Buxy, Montagny lès-Buxy, Jully-lès-Buxy and Saint-Vallerin), have been banded together as a single Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée "Montagny", since 1936. On the label, the appellations MONTAGNY and MONTAGNY PREMIER CRU may be followed by the name of the “climat” (named plot) of origin.
Only Chardonnay is grown on these East and South-East facing hillsides of Bajocien limestone, with vines planted at altitudes of 250-400 metres. The terroir is a combination of marls and marly limestones of the Jurassic lias and older trias with gravelly lower Triassic at Buxy, together with Kimmeridgian limestone which dominates in the geology of Chablis
Yohan Boone took over the vineyards from his father Eric in 2007 and immediately decided that he wanted to produce wines under the Domaine label. Eric is the president of the Caves at Genouilly and this is where his wine is vinified, by head winemaker Hervé Gabon. There are only 4 Domaine wines vinified here, the rest is for the Co- operative. Les Vignes Derriere is one of the Climats that is designated as a 1 er Cru.
“Aromatic notes of white flowers on the nose, with a sensation of taut mineral freshness.
A lovely line of purity runs through the palate with a touch of honeysuckle. Fruits are ripe but supported with a fine, balancing acidity. Well structured, with an appetising length of finish.”
