“Burgundy 201 - A lovely vintage north to south: wines singing their heart out.” Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com One of the secrets to finding top quality Burgundy at an affordable price is to look for a Domaine which is situated in a top villages, and then ask to taste their Bourgogne Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. More often than not they have parcels close to their more “valued” vines that are outside of the classification, but have many of the same traits, and sometimes they include “off cuts” of other wines, depending on yields. In the winery, they may not have the same amount of new oak aging, but they are cared for in the same way and will have a good proportion of barrel maturation. Situated in the villages of Puligny Montrachet, the Yann and Alexandra have 2.4 hectares around the village which is classified as Bourgogne Chardonnay. Yann Pascal, grandson of the original founders, took over the estate in 2000 and his wife Alexandra is the winemaker. She lavishes great care on even this humble appellation, aging in barrel for 11 month, 15% new oak the rest 1-3 year old. “A fairly exotic nose with some ripe notes of peach and acacia flower.
