Familia Otero Ramos
VINE AND WINEMAKER INFORMATION
Familia Otero Ramos owns 32 ha of vineyards in full production located in Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza – First Viticultural area in Argentina and the only place in the world with DO for Malbec. In this exceptional location, beautifully framed by the Andes mountains, the following were planted: Malbec (12 ha), Cabernet Sauvignon (8 ha), Tannat (2 ha), Pinot Noir (2 ha), Petit Verdot (2 ha), Chardonnay (4 ha) and Sauvignon Blanc (1 ha). At present, the vineyards are between 10 and 25 years old.
Apart from its own vineyards, Familia Otero Ramos also manages 20 ha in Valle de Uco, San Carlos. Despite not being their own vineyard, they have agreed with the owners on how to work the 20 ha of Malbec and the necessary ways to achieve a fantastic high altitude wine (1100 mt asl).
In a similar vein, Familia Otero Ramos also runs another vineyard in the East of Mendoza, known as El Central in San Martin. Here they manage a 10 ha lot of Bonarda which provides excellent raw material for their wines.
Don Manuel Otero Ramos, who is the main winemaker at Familia Otero Ramos, has been involved in the winemaking industry for over 48 years. At present, he runs his own family business and relies on the counsellingof a group of oenologists in order to pay special and careful attention to each single part of the process. Flying Winemaker Don Sergio Correa Undurraga, supervisor oenologist Alejandro Rojas, and staff oenologist Carolina Astorga are the professionals that work together with Don Manuel to achieve wines that meet the highest international quality standards.
